Plugged In: Technology, the Internet, and Child Safety

This 1.5 hour training is for or parents and caregivers of young children. Early childhood educators are challenged to look at the pros and cons of using computers in their classrooms and child care centers and homes. Screen time and effects of technology on early brain development are discussed. Discussion also includes the major risks to children using technology such as, cyber bullying, exposure to pornography, online gaming, and “sexting.” Multiple ways of keeping children safer with emphasis on supervision and education are discussed. This workshop is presented as part of the Building Bright Futures Early Childhood Regional Council meeting. Council updates will follow the presentation.
