Very Hungry Caterpillar Day

Celebrate the Start of Spring and Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, March 20, with the Very Hungry Caterpillar Campaign!

Middlebury, VT (March 1, 2016) The Vermont Book Shop is participating in the Very Hungry Caterpillar Campaign by hosting a Very Hungry Caterpillar Day event Sunday, March 20, the first day of spring, from 3-4 p.m. There will be a reading of the book, activities and paper puppet giveaways.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Campaign encourages reading and helps hungry readers around the country. For every Eric Carle book purchased in the month of March, a book will be donated to a child in need through First Book, (up to 50,000 books). When an Eric Carle book is purchased, customers can fill out their names on the caterpillar pad. We will decorate our bookstore with the caterpillars to raise awareness about the campaign.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children’s picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle, first published in 1969. It features a caterpillar who eats its way through a wide variety of foodstuffs before pupating and emerging as a butterfly. The winner of many children’s literature awards and a major graphic design award, it has sold 30 million copies worldwide.

The storytime and celebration on March 20 is a free event geared to very young children and their families. The Very Hungry Caterpillar Campaign is open to the community for the month of March.
