Every year a group of early literacy advocates called Addison County Readers sets up tables at local events to spread the word about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the program they sponsor that sends books in the mail to kids ages birth to 5 — for free.
This year, because of the pandemic, the local group hasn’t been able to get the word on out in person. So we’re going to do it for them right here.
If you haven’t already signed up your kid, do it. The books are great, and we’ve yet to meet a kid who doesn’t love getting stuff in the mail.
Children receive one free, age-appropriate book that is mailed to their home each month until their fifth birthday. The books are theirs to keep. Children over age 2 receive quality paperbacks; younger children receive hardcover books.
“My Dog Laughs” is Emma Rooker’s favorite (pictured above). Her mom, Laura, tells us “She’s able to ‘read’ it herself by using the pictures.'”
