Porter Auxiliary to Host Annual “Derby Day” Benefit
If your upcoming travel plans do not include a visit to the infield at Churchill Downs in Louisville for the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby, then plan to come to Cornwall on Saturday afternoon, May 3rd , for the annual “Kentucky Derby Day Benefit” sponsored by the Porter Medical Center Auxiliary. According to event co-chairs Jan Bark and Ann Collins, the event is open to the general public and all are encouraged to participate in this unique and enjoyable benefit hosted by Sue and Bruce Byers.
Mint Juleps, Dakin Farm spiral ham on biscuits, and other treats in keeping with the Derby theme will be featured at this outdoor event in Cornwall under a tent affording beautiful views to the Adirondacks. As always, guests will be able to wager on their favorite horse—and then cheer on the winner during a live broadcast of the “Run for the Roses” at approximately 6:30 p.m. The evening will also feature a raffle with prizes ranging from gift certificates to local merchants and restaurants to one of a kind items like a photo session with a local photographer and an advanced copy of a local cookbook. Be sure to check out the Auxiliary’s facebook page for a more raffle items!
According to Auxiliary President Holmes Jacobs, this year the Auxiliary has invited local businesses and individuals to participate as sponsors to assist the Auxiliary in covering the expenses associated with the event. “We want to express a special thanks to our sponsors: People’s United Bank, Otter Creek Brewing and Vermont Hard Cider Company, The Lodge at Otter Creek, Middlebury Indoor Tennis, Mackey Insurance, Co-operative Insurance Companies of Vermont, Two Bros. Tavern, Cabot Creamery, J.P. Carrara and Sons, and two very generous anonymous donors” he said. “We also want to thank the Waybury Inn for their generous underwriting of a portion of our expenses and their outstanding service during the event.”
Proceeds from this event will be donated by the PMC Auxiliary to renovate the short-term rehabilitation unit at Helen Porter Healthcare. Tickets are $50 per person for non-members ($45 for members) and may be purchased by calling the Laurie Borden at Porter Hospital Public Relations Department at 802-388-4738 or online on Porter’s web site here.
The Porter Medical Center Auxiliary supports the work of Porter Hospital and Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center via donations for new equipment, programs and services. The Derby Day event is only one of the projects that generate funds; additional funds are generated by the Round Robin Upscale Resale Shop and other special events. The Auxiliary is governed by a board of approximately 20 volunteer women and men who oversee the projects and funds of the Auxiliary.
