  • Blind Date with a Book in Middlebury. Ongoing, runs through end of February. Vermont Book Shop, 38 Main St. Children and adults will receive a mystery book wrapped in paper when they make a donation to Addison County Readers. Suggested donation $5. 

  • Coffee & Convo at Downhill Bread in Bristol. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 8:30–10 a.m., Downhill Bread. Weekly coffee and conversation gathering, hosted by The Blooming Circle. All are welcome. More info at @thebloomingcircle.802 on Instagram. 

  • Book reading with Francois Clemmons in Middlebury. Wednesday Feb. 25, 10 a.m., The Residence at Otter Creek, 350 Lodge Rd. Children and families are invited to a morning of songs and stories with Residence at Otter Creek resident Francois Clemmons of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” In celebration of Black History Month, Clemmons will read children’s books, lead a Mister Rogers and Daniel Tiger sing-along, and share video clips from his acting career, along with a recent conversation with Ms. Rachel.   • Story Sharing & Clothespin Doll Making at Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh. Saturday, February 28th, 10-12 p.m., 4334 Route 7. Join Rokeby Museum and local artist Catherine Brooks for storytime at Rokeby’s Visitor Center. Listen to the story of real-life Black Vermonter Daisy Turner in “Daisy and the Doll,” then stick around to make your very own clothespin doll! Admission is free, no sign-up necessary.   • Lunar New Year celebration in Middlebury. Saturday, Feb. 28, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Town Hall Theater, 72-76 Merchants Row. Town Hall Theater and Addison County BIPOC+ present the third annual Lunar New Year Celebration, a family-friendly festival featuring performances, artmaking, cultural demonstrations, storytime and hands-on activities throughout the theater.   • Little Wildings outdoor gathering in Middlebury. Sunday, March 1, 9:30 a.m., Otter View Park, intersection of Weybridge Street and Pulp Mill Bridge Road. Little Wildings is a free, year-round outdoor community designed to help families connect, share tips and encouragement, and foster a love of nature in children. Families meet in the parking lot to bundle up before heading out on the trails for a group walk. Free.   • “Teen Mental Health in a Changing World” panel discussion in Middlebury. Sunday, March 1, 4-5:15 p.m., Congregational Church of Middlebury, 30 North Pleasant St. Panel discussion on teen mental health moderated by Rev. Elizabeth Gleich, featuring clinicians, educators and a college student discussing current challenges facing today’s teens and ways to offer meaningful support.   • “Nothing to Hide” opening reception in Middlebury. Sunday, March 1, 5:15 p.m., Congregational Church of Middlebury, 30 North Pleasant St. Reception and opening of “Nothing to Hide,” a photo-text exhibit exploring the experiences of individuals and families living with mental illness.   • Charity fundraising breakfast in Bristol. Sunday, March 8, 7:30-10 a.m., or until sold out, Masons’ Libanus Lodge, corner of North and Elm streets. The Bristol Masons host a monthly breakfast with proceeds benefiting a person or group in need in the Five Town Area. Menu includes homemade corned beef hash, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pancakes, blueberry pancakes, French toast with Vermont maple syrup and Cabot butter, juices, homemade apple bread pudding, coffee by Vermont Coffee Company coffee and Maple Meadows Farm eggs. $9 adults, $5 children under 12.

  • The Pig Race in Goshen. Sunday, March 8, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Blueberry Hill Outdoor Center, 1288 Goshen-Ripton Rd. Revival of the classic Nordic ski Pig Race, founded in the 1970s, featuring self-timed courses of approximately 7.5- and 12-kilometers, a kids’ race, optional jumps, obstacles and ungroomed trails. Kids’ race starts at 11 a.m.; adult race at 11:30 a.m. Costumes encouraged. Race entry includes a post-race meal with fire-roasted pig, plus mac and cheese and vegetarian options. Meal-only tickets available. BYOB. Day-of registration begins at 10 a.m. Rain or shine. Prices range from $15 for the kids race to $45 for adult long course with meal.   • Introduction to maple sugaring in Leicester. Sunday, March 8, 1-3 p.m., Foxglove Farm, 777 Delorm Rd. Learn how maple syrup is made at this hands-on workshop from MALT, country forester Mark Raishart and Vermont Woodlands Association representative Catherine Raishart. Participants will learn to identify maple trees, set taps, collect sap and understand the basics of syrup making. Twenty free sugaring starter kits will be available, one per family while supplies last, thanks to Bread Loaf View Farm. Free. More info at maltvt.org.

    THURSDAY, MARCH 19

  • Circle of Life in Middlebury. Thursday, March 19, 10 a.m., EastView at Middlebury, 100 EastView Terrace. Circle of Life Story Hour is hosted by EastView in Middlebury to bring babies, toddlers, and preschoolers together with seniors. They welcome caregivers and their little ones to share an hour of stories, songs, and social connections. This program will be offered on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:00am. EastView staff and residents will read favorite children’s books, sing songs, and play games together. Registration is not required, but it will help organizers if you let them know you’re coming.   • Mount Abraham Spring Musical “Once Upon a One More Time” in Bristol. Thursday, March 26, 7 p.m., high school auditorium. Powered by the chart-topping hits of Britney Spears, the undisputed Princess of Pop, “Once Upon A One More Time” turns our favorite fairy tales upside down with a clever twist! When a fairy godmother goes rogue and plops copies of “The Feminine Mystique” in the laps of classic heroines, the damsels embark on a quest to rewrite their stories and redefine “happily ever after.” The show is described as “colorful PG13 hip hop fantasy” and “a big, modern, musical dance party, with Britney’s beating heart at its core.”  Tickets: $15 adult/$12 seniors and children under 12 at bit.ly/oncenc.
