Bird Banding in Weybridge. Thursday, July 9, 8:00–10:00 a.m. Hurd Grassland, 91 Meadow Lane, Weybridge. Join MALT and Audubon Vermont biologist Mark LaBarr for a morning of bird banding. Make a Playdough Earth in Brandon. Friday, July 10, 10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Brandon Free Public Library, 4 Franklin St., Brandon. Kids can discover the various layers of the earth as they craft one out of playdough.

Saturday, July 11

Monthly Wildlife Walk in Middlebury. Saturday, July 11, 7:00–9:00 a.m. Otter View Park, Middlebury. Otter Creek Audubon and the Middlebury Area Land Trust invite community members to help us survey birds and other wildlife at Otter View Park and the Hurd Grassland. Meet at the parking area at the intersection of Weybridge St. and Pulp Mill Bridge Rd. Birders of all ages and abilities welcome. For more information, call 802-388-6019.

Peasant Market in Middlebury. Saturday, July 11, 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Town Green, Middlebury. The popular rummage sale features bargain shopping, baked goods, games and an auction to support local non-profits. Last year’s market raised $24,000 for local groups. Good condition donations can be dropped off at the church before July 1. Volunteers are welcome to help set up and clean up on Peasant Market day.

Dad Guild Beach Day in Ferrisburgh. Saturday, July 11, 9:30–11:00 a.m. Ferrisburgh Town Beach. Dads and kids are invited to join us at Ferrisburgh Town Beach to hang out and play!

Town Festivities in Starksboro. Saturday, July 11, 10:00 a.m. Cota Field, Starksboro. Bring a lawn chair and your water bottle to join in enjoying town festivities. 10 a.m.: VFD demos at the Fire House; 11 a.m. horse-drawn wagon rides, hand mowing demo, vintage farm equipment exhibit, natural roofing slate demo; noon: fiber arts demo, field games, BBQ brisket sliders/burgers lunch. 1 p.m. Town Photo. Family Bike Ride with Addison County Bike Club in Middlebury. Saturday, July 11, 10-11:30 a.m., Wright Park TAM Trailhead, Wright Park Parking Lot. Join the Addison County Bike Club for a family-friendly bike ride to Belden Falls. This relatively flat ride is great for families looking to get outside and explore together. Dinoman in Vergennes. Saturday, July 11, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Bixby Memorial Free Library, 258 Main St., Vergennes. Dinosaur tracks lead right to the Bixby Library! Have no fear, Dinoman is here! With magic, merry mayhem, and magnificent props, the audience is taken on a trip throughout the Mesozoic era. How do we know dinosaurs were here? What is a fossil? How are they made? This program is fun and informative for all ages. Learn more.

Weybridge Town Potluck & Picnic in Weybridge. Saturday, July 11, 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Weybridge Elementary School, Weybridge. The Weybridge Community Group will grill burgers and hot dogs and provide beverages and Louise Bowdish’s famous cupcakes. Please bring your own dishware and utensils and a side dish to share.

Kids Cafe at the Middlebury Marquis in Middlebury: The Lion King. Saturday, July 11, 12:30 p.m. 65 Main St., Middlebury. A weekly free kids movie in the cafe space.

Sunday, July 12

Orwell Food & Farm Fest in Orwell. Sunday, July 12, 12-4 p.m. Celebrate local food, farms, and community at this family-friendly festival featuring live music by Sap Tappers (with Orwell favorite fiddler Freeman Corey), free ice cream while supplies last, yard games, local farmers and makers, crafts and activities for kids and adults, and plenty of opportunities to connect with neighbors. Middlebury Festival on the Green Family Hour Performance: No Strings Marionettes. Tuesday, July 14, 12 p.m.-1 p.m., Middlebury Town Green. Enjoy free, family-friendly entertainment all week long! Puppeteers Dan Baginski and Barbara Paulson transform our stage into an intimate theater where a seamless blend of movement, music, and masterful manipulation will captivate young and old alike. Middlebury Festival on the Green Family Hour Performance: Burlington Taiko. Wednesday, July 15, 12 p.m.-1 p.m., Middlebury Town Green. Enjoy free, family-friendly entertainment all week long! Taiko drumming is a marvel to hear, see and feel. Burlington Taiko has played hundreds of performances including at the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, and Burlington’s First Night. Taiko combines movement, rhythm, voice, and the efficient and graceful movement of chi, or “energy,” from player to drum. Click here for full lineup and schedule.

Strategies for Supporting Early Literacy at Home in Bristol. Wednesday, July 15, 5-6 p.m. The Peake House, 16 North St. Parents, caregivers, nannies or anyone supporting kids can join Stern Center Literacy Coach Elizabeth Keenan for a summer strategy session. Hands-on activities, conversation, and real-life examples. Bring your kid and learn together or come gather pro-tips to bring back home. This session will be focused on supporting children in Pre-K through 3rd grade (4-8 years old), but may be of interest to families with older or younger children as well. RSVP required.

Bristol Town Band Summer Concerts on the Park in Bristol. Wednesday, July 15, 7:00 p.m. Town Green, Bristol. The Bristol Town Band is back for its 156th year of weekly evening concerts. Each Wednesday from June 17 to Aug. 26 the Town Green will be filled with music and events. Bring a picnic and chair to enjoy the music with family and friends. We welcome new members. Middlebury Festival on the Green Family Hour Performance: Robinson Crusoe & Zoé Liberté. Thursday, July 16, 12 p.m.-1 p.m., Middlebury Town Green. Enjoy free, family-friendly entertainment all week long! This lively storytelling show playfully reimagines—and twists—Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. The show takes audiences on a vibrant journey that celebrates freedom and calls for respect for all living beings. Circus Minimus is a place where ordinary people do extraordinary things! Founder Kevin O’Keefe discovered Circus Minimus when he found an empty suitcase outside of his NYC apartment and filled it with everything he needed for his One-Man Circus in a Suitcase. Big Truck Day in Bristol. Saturday, August 1, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Mt. Abraham Union High School. Get up close with the heavy machinery, emergency vehicles, and commercial equipment that help keep our community running at Bristol Rescue Squad’s First Safety & Big Truck Day. Climb aboard fire engines, police cruisers, ambulances, dump trucks, construction equipment, and more while meeting local first responders. The event will be sensory-friendly from 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. with no horns, sirens, or emergency lights. Admission is $5 per person (children 12 months and under free) or a donation of your choosing. Parking access is off Liberty Street before the horse-riding ring.

Addison County Fair & Field Days in New Haven. Tuesday, August 4-Saturday, August 8, 1790 Field Days Rd. Bringing together the very best of Vermont’s agricultural traditions. Five days of family fun, featuring livestock shows, 4-H exhibits, horse events, farm products and demonstrations, antique tractors, motorsports, carnival rides, live entertainment, and classic fair food. Kids Dig Mount Independence: A Simulated Archaeological Dig in Orwell. Saturday, August 8, 1 – 3:30 p.m., Mount Independence State Historic Site, 497 Mount Independence Rd. Where did the artifacts in our museum come from? Learn how archaeologists study a site. Each participant will take part in a simulated dig using archaeology tools to “find” artifacts soldiers would have used here in 1776. Children ages 6 to 12. Free with museum admission.
