Foxglove Farm was recently named 2024 VT Tree Farm of the Year. Owners Mark and Catie Raishart have a passion for education and sustainable land management. This special event is open to everyone—from those curious about the Tree Farm program to those who have been enrolled for decades. Come spend the day in the woods with others who share a passion for sustainable woodland stewardship.
Foxglove Farm is home to the headwaters of Seymour Brook, draining approximately 2 ½ square miles which include Fern Lake and foothills of the Green Mountains. The brook drains out of a large beaver pond – providing a long list of important benefits. This tour will highlight the broad range of functions that wetland ecosystems provide with guided activities led by Wetland Ecologist, Zapata Courage. We will explore active and abandoned beaver habitat to understand how beavers influence wetland dynamics, discuss how wetlands can mitigate the impacts of climate change through water and carbon storage, and get a first-hand look at how managed forests can co-exist alongside high-value wetlands.
All are welcome—whether you’re interested in learning about the Tree Farm program, are a long-time Tree Farmer, or simply want to enjoy a day outdoors with like-minded individuals. Come experience the rewards of good stewardship and spend the day in the woods with us!
