KICK the New School Year Off Right With TaeKwon Do K.I.C.K.S.

08.23.2013 By: Eliza, MiniBury Founder

If your family is looking for a new after-school activity* this fall, one that the whole family can participate in, consider TaeKwon Do K.I.C.K.S in Middlebury, Master Kellie Thomas. This physical activity is sure to add discipline, movement and fun to your day. Read on for more incentive, plus a little added bonus for MiniBury readers.
*If you run, own, work or simply love your after-school activity and would like to be mentioned on MiniBury, please feel free to email us details.

Why TaeKwon Do? – All martial arts are unique and strong as they have been perfected throughout the generations and the trick is to find the style that fits your personality.  I chose to train and teach TKD because I like the balance aspect of the art by balancing the physical & mind/spiritual; offensive & defensive moves; utilizing feet & hand techniques; and the actual movement through techniques require “coming back to center” which is something I believe is also helpful to do outside of any training.  And it is an art with so many facets that I believe any student can excel regardless of size, strength, and athletic ability because physical strength is as important as knowledge which is as important as character.  Besides teaching the 5 Tenets and the oath I felt there was even more TKD offered and that is how TKD K.I.C.K.S. got its name – Keep fit; Inner strength, Confidence, Kinship and Self-defense.   I often say:  “Prepare For Black Belt: Prepare for Life” and strongly believe the skills students learn while training in TaeKwon Do will help prepare them for life.   You should see improvements in balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, self discipline, respect, confidence and focus.

What is TaeKwon Do – A martial art from Korea which literally means foot – hand – way (of life).  Foot refers to the dynamic kicking associated with TKD.  Hand refers to the hand techniques also studied and performed.  Way of Life refers to practicing the 5 Tenets of TaeKwon Do, where are Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.  Students are taught that the Tenets are behaviors and characteristics that should be used and demonstrated in all aspects of their life

Why TaeKwon Do K.I.C.K.S. – Master Kellie Thomas (5th degree black belt), owner & head instructor, has been teaching in the Middlebury area for 6 years and has taught programs at many of the area schools and organizations.    Middlebury classes are held at Middlebury Fitness on Mondays & Friday evenings with classes divided by age & experience – but because all classes are taught “family-style” it is possible for different aged siblings and parents (grandparents) with children to train together.   Here is what some Moms have to say:

“We see the benefits of tae kwon do in our six year old son every day: posture, agility, discipline, respect for adults and a pro-teamwork attitude with his peers.” Middlebury Mom

In short 8 months – my overall health has benefit – my breathing is better, I ache a lot less, I’m much more flexible, my balance was never great but it’s slowly getting there… my self-confidence has shot up – My grand-daughter and I have a great time. – Cheryl, proudly representing our over 50 crowd

“We are constantly grateful for having found TKD KICKS. Our four boys, ages 3-8, are each students there now and each has grown as a result of their experiences with Tae Kwon Do and Master Kellie Thomas. Some of the benefits our boys have experienced include: increased respect for self and others, improved confidence, practical knowledge of self defense, the camaraderie of being part of a team and the ability to have mentors of all ages who genuinely care for them both in and out of class.” Vergennes Mom

Back To School Special:  Normal tuition is $65/month for one family member, $95/month for 2 members and $125 for 3+ members for twice a week training – no contracts or initiation fee.  During the month of September, we are offering a special one month price for new students of $30.   Please contact us at 802-377-0476 or [email protected] for more information or to set up your free trial class.  Please also check out our webpage at www.tkdkicks.net.

Here’s to hoping your school year starts off on the “right foot”.

Eliza, MiniBury Founder

Hello, I’m Eliza. I founded MiniBury in 2012 because I had a hunch that I wasn't the only parent in Addison County missing fun family friendly events. I love the challenge of finding and sharing information about our community to other parents.
