If you have a middle school daughter in your house listen up! The widely successful “Sister-to-Sister” Program is hosting its ninth summit for middle school girls on Saturday, November 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m at Middlebury College’s Mahaney Center for the Arts.
Girls from all area schools in the seventh and eight grade are welcome to join Sister-to-Sister mentors for some serious fun this coming Saturday.
What is Sister-to-Sister?
Sister-to-Sister strives to make a positive difference by giving a voice to the interests of young women. Sister-to-Sister provides a “safe space” to talk about the challenges facing young women with college mentors and girls from Vergennes, Middlebury and Bristol. Each month includes a new fun activities with college mentors and middle school girls for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Why she’ll love it:
Mentors develop experiences that encourage girls to try new things outside of the classroom such as dance, log rolling and yoga. Last years activities included Zumba!, holiday crafts, spa night, field day, and many more awesome events. She’ll meet new people and gain new relationships.
Why you’ll love it:
We all know how lonely and difficult adolescence can be. In addition to fun events and activities, Sister-to-Sister also focuses on discussion of topics that are pertinent to the girls such as body image, relationships, popularity, self-confidence, and self-defense. While specific activities vary, the foundation of the program is about building trusting and supportive relationships.
