Ok we love to shop local, but when it comes to bulk shopping we tend to go online. Sorry but it’s was true.
Recently however, a little bird told us the best secret about bulk discounts. Did you know that your local co-op or supermarket will probably give you a bulk discount on supplies like diapers? For example, not only will the Middlebury Co-Op allow you to order nearly anything on the shelves in bulk (and get it to you with a week or so with a 15% discount!) they will give also a slight discount to you when you order diapers in bulk. Truth be told the brands they carry, Seventh Generation and Earths Best Diapers, are expensive, but at a discount* – and knowing you’re supporting local business – it’s a pretty sweet deal. So next time you’re running low on staples, ask around and find out how your local store can help you out.

*After speaking with the Co-Op manager, we learned that the store can’t offer its usual 15% bulk discount on diapers, because the shelf price is only a slight markup. So if you order in bulk, you’ll save about 2% off shelf price. Oddly enough, that rounds out to about the same prices you’ll find at diapers.com and amazon.com… that made us think twice about where we buy our goods from.
