more camps!

05.13.2013 By: Eliza, MiniBury Founder

If you’re looking for a camp for little ones, check out Turtle Lane Camp @ Lake Champlain Waldorf School.tlclogo

Turtle Lane Camp is a relaxed and fun-filled summertime experience that brings children closer to nature. For children ages 3-5 and 6-8, Turtle Lane Camp follows the easy rhythm of a summer day, moving between outdoor forest play, nature education, woodland stories, and nature arts and crafts. There is always time for fort and fairy-house building! Located on the beautiful, 22-acre wooded campus of the Lake Champlain Waldorf School.

Each theme includes two groups: Children’s Garden (3-5) and Woodland Adventures (6-8). Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Before and after-care available from 8-9 a.m. and 3-5 p.m.

Please note: Week one (July 8 -12) for Children’s Garden only (ages 3-5) is full. All other weeks remain open.

1) July 8-12: Earth–Mud, Bugs and Worms
We will explore the world that lies beneath our feet, including worms, insects and soil. Expect to get dirty as we dig for clay and seek out animal tracks, make clay amulets and paint with plants.
2) July 15-19: Air–Birds, Bubbles, Kites and Clouds
We will spend lots looking skyward in this airy camp! Our week includes bird watching and nest building. We’ll find different kinds of clouds, make bubble wands, and watch the wind work with homemade kites or pinwheels.
3) July 22-26: Water– Beavers and Boats
We’ll revel in wetness this week, and watch for signs of nearby river animals—especially that amazing builder, the beaver. We’ll also find out how native people have navigated our rivers, and make our own toy boats.
4) July 29-August 2: Wood–Sticks, Teepees, and Trees
Nothing is better than sticks! In this camp we’ll choose, sand, polish and decorate our own walking sticks, build forts with fallen wood, and learn about the trees.

They may lead a game or song, help younger campers in a nature art project, or read a story in quiet time. CITs should enjoy working with children, love being outdoors, be willing to be good role models, and want to learn new skills. CITs attend camp for free.

Highlights of Turtle Lane Art and Nature Camp:

Exploring Nature

Turtle Lane Camp is held on our beautiful wooded 22-acre Shelburne campus. The heart of every camp day is the time we spend in the forest, playing, exploring, and cultivating our love for the land. Each camper will make a forest sketchbook for drawing plants, animals and insects we see.

Arts

Each afternoon we will spend time creating beautiful art from materials gathered with care in our morning adventures. Art projects reflect the week’s nature theme.

Work and Play

Each day includes time caring for farm animals, gardening, and active games and free play in the forest.

Mixed Ages

At several points in the day older and younger campers come together to create a family-like camp experience. Older campers get to lead and help younger ones, and the younger ones love to look up to older friends. Counselors carefully support positive social interaction between the ages. Older and younger campers separate so that school-age children can enjoy more ecology education and strenuous adventures, while younger campers play and imagine close to our kindergarten “home.”

Please contact camp director Abigail Diehl-Noble or (802) 877-6901 with further questions.

Eliza, MiniBury Founder

Hello, I’m Eliza. I founded MiniBury in 2012 because I had a hunch that I wasn't the only parent in Addison County missing fun family friendly events. I love the challenge of finding and sharing information about our community to other parents.
