Middlebury
The 5th annual pumpkin race down Otter Creek, over the falls, and across the finish line at the Old Stone Mill. The start is under the Cross Street Bridge (near Mr. Ups). It is a mass start involving a minor bushwhack down to the river and then tossing the pumpkins into the river.
You can enter as many pumpkins as you like, but pumpkins should be decorated ahead of time with some type of marking that won’t wash off in the whitewater. Tried and true techniques include etching a design into the outer part of the pumpkin without carving through it, pumpkin-dress up, tying ribbon, or permanent marker. Spandex, headbands, eyeliner, piercings, etc. are also encouraged for pumpkins and people alike!
Pumpkins are recovered from the river by canoe… if they survive. Trophies will be awarded for best decorated pumpkin, and of course, fastest pumpkin!
Schedule:
4:30: Begin to gather under bridge near Mr. Ups
4:45: Pumpkin judging begins
5:00: Post time. Race begins.
