No school, but lots of parades:
9:00am Memorial Day parade in Middlebury begins at Porter Field off of South Street in Middlebury. From Route 7, follow the signs toward the hospital onto South St. Porter Field is on the right (look for the football field), it finishes at monument across from the intersection of Route 7 and Washington Street. Expect to see antique vehicles, animals, floats, candy, marching bands.
10:00am Memorial Day parade in downtown Brandon. Central Park. A very quaint event- a small parade, a few speeches and a 100 year old tradition of first grade girls placing flowers at the base of the Civil War Monument
10:00amMemorial Day parade in downtown Hancock.
11:00am Memorial Day parade in Vergennes. The annual Vergennes parade—the largest Memorial Day parade in Vermont— begins at Vergennes Union High School. The route will wind through the city and conclude at Vergennes City Park. There are 2 miles of color guards, veterans’ groups, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, lots of colorful floats, antique cars, parade horses, fire trucks, the Greater Burlington Cellarsavers, 12 marching bands, kids on bikes and a lot more.
12:00pm Memorial Day open house in Vergennes. Add your note to the mural of thanks for our veterans and active soldiers. The mural will be given to the American Legion for their members and visitors to enjoy.
1:00pm Memorial Day parade in Bristol. Ceremony with a Vermont National Guard officer followed by an open house at the Bristol American Legion.
7:00pm Memorial Day observance in Monkton.The Monkton Museum and Historical Society hosts this event, which includes readings from a number of Civil War letters written by a Monkton soldier. No restroom facilities. Free. At East Monkton Church.
