Community Associates (Developmental Services division of The Counseling Service of Addison County Inc.) and the Family Advisory Council are sponsoring a series of presentations on topics of interest to parents and guardians of people with disabilities.
The series kicks off with a presentation on ABLE Accounts. An ABLE Account is an investment account available to eligible individuals with disabilities. ABLE Accounts are made possible by the federal achieving a Better Life Experience (“ABLE”) Act. ABLE Accounts allow individuals with disabilities to save and invest money without losing eligibility for certain public benefits programs, like Medicaid or SSI.
Sarah L’Homme, a Benefits Counselor with VocRehab, will present. She will explain more about ABLE Accounts including how they work, who is eligible, and how to start one. There will be time for Q&A after the presentation and light refreshments will be provided.
In addition, mark your calendar for these future presentations:
• November 13, 5:00 p.m. – Attorney Jennifer Wagner, Esq., from Marsh & Wagner, P.C., on Special Needs Trust Funds
• January 8, 5:00 p.m. – Pamela Smith, Office of Public Guardians Regional Supervisor, Middlebury District, on the Role and Responsibility of Guardians
