The Sheldon Museum has organized a creative way to learn about local history while COVID-19 restrictions are keeping its doors closed. The museum has set up a Road Trip Scavenger Hunt to take place on Sunday, Oct. 18. Participants will drive through different parts of Addison County, while following clues to locate approximately 10 landmarks along the route. The hunt is appropriate for all ages, young and young at heart.
There are two routes to choose from: Route 1 travels from East Middlebury to Vergennes; Route 2 goes from Orwell to Middlebury. Each route will take approximately two hours and cover 25 miles. Picnic areas are suggested, so bring lunch or snacks. All the stops have easy access with places to park off the road. At each site, use your phone to take your picture with the landmark. Then tag the Sheldon on Instagram or Facebook, @henrysheldonmuseum.
The Sheldon encourages everyone to go on the Scavenger Hunt on the same day, Sunday, Oct. 18. A few days prior to that date, participants will receive an email with your route and clues for finding the landmarks. Don’t peek at the directions before Oct. 18 — the fun is solving the clues during the ride.
The Sheldon is charging a fee of $10, which includes both routes. Click here to register. The Sheldon will give an Addison County poster from the Museum Store to participants who post their photos (while supplies last).
