Here’s what a few of our MiniBury families were up to during Independence Day!
What do you do when everyone wakes up on America’s birthday with little motivation to fight for a parking spot and stand in the pouring rain?
You have your own parade!
(Complete with lotsa candy and renditions of the national anthem and U.S. Blues.) Then you follow it up with board/card games (our favorite is Trash), smoke bombs (hyperventilates a little bit), and a fancy unicorn popsicle (it’s fancy because garden fresh mint was added to it by a 5-year-old).

Parades, fireworks, friends and fun all made for a great Independence Day weekend! A special thanks goes to my 2 kiddos who stayed smiling throughout it all despite being so hot and sweaty.
Me? I nodded off during the fireworks show because momming during a holiday weekend tired me right out! Beautiful bombs didn’t seem to faze the happy exhaustion that comes with making these memories happen for my family.

Our family went for the full indulgence experience this year for the 4th. We hit the Bristol parade and came home with a full tote bag of sticky candy, plucked from the sweltering streets and properly sprinkled by both rain showers and float riders with super soakers. Our kids bounced to their heart’s content on the bounce houses, then we collectively ate the requisite hot dog, Philly cheesesteak, strawberry shortcake and the kinds of frozen treats that dye your face blue for the rest of the day.
We even snagged a family portrait with a certain senator who enjoys making rounds at Vermont’s best Independence Day events.
We then made our way to an annual 4th party complete with a yummy potluck buffet, lawn games and a homemade slip-and-slide made properly dangerous with the help of every soap or oil bottle that the kids could locate inside.
We ended with a bang, thanks to an impressive fireworks show, and got everyone to bed, albeit 2 hours after normal bedtime.
Thank goodness for holidays that fall on a Saturday!
